Notable Features
: This stunning and versatile hair pin piece was handcrafted by a talented silversmith during the Georgian period. It features eighteen hand carved old rose cut crystal quartz stones that have a gorgeous semi-transparent muted gray color. They are cut to mimic the appearance of rose cut diamonds, which was a popular addition to jewelry at that time. Made with exceptional design, every detail down to appearance and craftsmanship in this pin is accounted for. The ornamental portion consists of a beautiful boteh shaped detail, which is accented with rose cut quartz, and has a lovely milgrain finished edge. Underneath this is an organically arranged collection of flowers, arrayed in a loose half wreath. The line details on the petals and leaves of this ornamentation are exquisite and quite lifelike! The pin section is tapered at the ends, and has diagonal striped pattern that was chased and then had a patina added to the grooves for contrast. This unique item could be worn as a hair pin, a lapel pin or brooch, or it could be converted to a pendant by your local jeweler. With quite the history, it would make the perfect "something old" for a bride as well. Ornate, classic, and beautifully crafted, this hair pin piece is an absolute gem!

The History
This piece was made during the Georgian era! This era is known for its hand-crafted designs, which were heavily influenced by world exploration. A few signatures of this era were high karat gold, cameos, chatelaine accessories, foil-backed stones, rivière necklaces, memento mori and mourning jewelry, and rose and mine cut diamonds. While the jewelry from this era began to see designs from all over the world, jewelry from abroad was still very expensive to acquire. Hefty price tags were due to imported jewelry having to be procured by sea on slow-moving ships. Between age and difficulty of acquirement, jewelry from the Georgian era are rare finds and amazing pieces of history.
Rose cut diamonds have been made for hundreds of years. They gained popularity during the Georgian era, before they were replaced with the more precise mine cut diamond. Rose cut diamonds are one of the last types of stones to feature hand-cleaved facets on the stone. A stone cutter would use one diamond to shape the facets of another, creating a rough, organic look. Today, rose cut diamonds are highly prized due to their rarity; most of these stones were lost or re-cut into more modern, sleeker cuts.
