Enchanting Original Carnelian Shell Cameo of 'Goddess Athena' with the 'Owl of Athena' on Her Shoulder is exquisitely carved and is either signed by the artisan 'Genti'; or, 'Genti' is the '
maker's mark'
.  The setting is 14K Gold, shown by the marks on the left lower inside edge:
585, followed by a STAR shape, and
302 NA
.
The Cameo with setting is 1 ½ inches high (38.1 mm) and 1 ¼ inches across (31.75mm), and weighs 6 grams.  The brooch has a ‘C clasp’, while a ‘hinged bail’ allows the Cameo to be worn as a Necklace.  The C-clasp is missing the 'safety catch' and will need repair; two earring backs will be included (one to secure the C-clasp, one to hold the pin on if the C-clasp comes lose).  As you look at the photographs, consider the 'subject matter' and 'carving' of this Carnelian Shell; the detail of the hair, facial features and the small 'Owl of Athena' that is carved to sit on the left shoulder of the Goddess Athena.  The cameo is carved in the traditional concave fashion for carnelian shell.  The details features are captured in the lighter colors of the shell, with the darker carnelian colors accenting the Goddess Athena and her Owl.
With C-clasp requiring repair I cannot list this item as Excellent;
however, the CAMEO is EXCELLENT.  The subject matter and rarity of this
subject matter
in Cameo's of the same Vintage, that makes this particular Cameo stand out from the rest and highly collectible.  The C-clasp repair is a simple matter.
