A shrine of the five headed goddess Gayatri is shown in this painting as a diversification of Mahalakshmi. She is shown here holding lotuses, conch, cup, goad, disc, whip, and pasa (noose) in her various hands. While standing on a lotus, the coral complexioned Devi is wearing a heavy south Indian golden border red silk sari. The figures of goddess Saraswati and a female devotee with folded hands are painted on the walls of the shrine. She is represented here as the embodiment of all the feminine potential of gods in one supreme form. She has five faces having colour of Mukta, the pearl, Vidruma, the coral, Hema, the gold, Nila, the blue like sky, and Dhawala, the white like milk. Her crown is studded with different coloured gems. River goddess Ganga is also painted on the crown of central figure. According to Devi Bhagavata she has three eyes and decorated with Chandra the moon.
The composition and style of this painting follows the 18th century miniature paintings of India. In the foreground, there is a stone pavement with a fountain. On both sides of the pavement there are lawns with different coloured flowers. In the background are seen plantain, and Asoka trees. The sky is filled with cirrus clouds. The walls have ornamental stone railings. The artist seems to be unaware of the theory of perspective, and took recourse to colours for showing the depth of the sanctum’s interior. The other four heads look like a card-board cut-out attached to the main head.
